If Indonesia Capital City, Jakarta, had Dunia Fantasi as one of tourism object, Sub-Province Capital City of Kutai Kartanegara, Tenggarong has Kumala Island as public recreation place of Kutai Kartanegara or even people East Kalimantan. The Difference is Dunia Fantasi resides at the coastal lip, whereas Kumala Island Recreational Park stays in the delta of Mahakam River. Kumala Island Recreational Park (TRPK) is managed by Kutai Kartanegara government. But the management is done professionally; it is seen by the settlement of locations which is developed very well planned and beautiful.

Transportation to Kumala Island also easy, you can use boat. Its only takes five minutes from port to Kumala Island. For the visitors who are afraid to take a boat, management also provide a cable car for them. For all of this transport, the management only takes a very small tariff that all people can buy it
Formerly Kumala Island is and empty island the always submerged when Mahakam River rising up. In the year 2002 Kutai Kartanegara Government reclaim this island and builds Kumala Island to become a recreational park completely with resort and equipment for transportation.
To enter Kumala Island Recreational Park area you only need to pay Rp. 2000 for once admission, to enjoy games in this recreational park the tariff varies between Rp. 1500 to Rp. 10.000 for one game.
There is at least ten game facilities you can enjoy, as Dunia Fantasi at Jakarta, Taman Rekreasi Pulau Kumala also provides different games like jet propulsion coaster, Bom-bom Car, Sky Tower even Go cart and cable car.
For you who want to walk around, Kumala Island Recreational Park provides mini train which brings you around to enjoy the beauty of Kumala Island. It occupied 81,7 hectares of land that you can enjoy for 45 minutes rides. Kumala Island Recreational Park also provides fishing arena for fishing hobbyist.
For you who interest to history, right in front of Wisata Pulau Kumala garden there is Museum Mulawarman which collects various historical objects empire of Islam Kutai. At the complex area of museum also there are some kiosks selling assorted typical handicraft of Kutai and also typical handicraft of East Kalimantan. For the truly travelers, Kutai Kartanegara also offer many place of interest to enjoy, such as Brubus Village at Muara Kaman area which is ex-capital city of Kutai Empire. Brubus Village is around 48 miles from Tenggarong, in this countryside we can found various empire omissions of eldest Hindu in Indonesia like pig head stone, Lesong Stone and others.
Still in Tenggarong Area, Kaman Estuary, and Bangun City is region Samboja there is a famous place of interest, Wisata Alam Bukit Bengkirai. Bengkirai hill is natural and adventure tourism object, located at Kecamatan Samboja, around 58 km from Balikpapan
This is a part of protected tropical rainforest, in this area there is Coronet Bridge become local and foreigner tourist’s favorite. This area also becomes one of place of do research of nature and forestry which has been equipped with various facilities, like meeting hall, restaurant, and cottage which can be rented.

, on 11-03-2008 19:33 aku dah pernah loh ke Pulau Kumala... klo menurut aku sih tempatnya asyik banget..meskipun panas, dan lumayan jauh juga karena harus ngebrang sungai Mahakam juga,tp buat kmu2 yang mo liburan ke sini jangan takut karena ada alat transportasi kok yang bakalan ngantar kmu.. tp yang pasti aku menikmati banget kok waktu kunjunganku yang singkat,apalagi waktu naik sky tower...wah keren abis..aku bisa liat seluruh kota Tenggarong dan Sungai Mahakamnya.wow sugoi ne..( keren bo..)sungguh indah .
Tapi sayang,sarana dan prasaran kurang terawat,dan kurang tersusun dengan rapi..alangkah lebih indah jika Pulau Kumala lebih dilestarikan dan dirawat guna menarik wisatawan domestik dan mancanegara.... aku berharap klo ada kesempatan lagi datang ke Samarinda dan khususnya ke Tenggarong,aku pengen deh ke Pulau Kumala lagi..itu tuh mo liat sungai.... thanks
